Now, lets take a trip to the beginning () You see here that he's trying to chase a balloon with one singular sticky note on it. He seems to treasure this sticky note a lot, and the fact that it's on a balloon (something that flies up). Maybe that sticky note was one nice thing that was told to him, and it helps his hopes fly up. Maybe when he lost that balloon, that person died, or left him for a bit.

Yet again, he realizes to accomplish his wishes, he needs to move on, and leave everything behind, including the person he lost. So, he let go of the balloon and let it fly away.
