Being confident is important for your image in society, and that may not be a good thing. If your 'self' depends on being always right, like some sort of 'genius', it would be no surprise to 'hallucinate' stuff. Having answer for everything is a bad habit, sometimes (often) you should take your time thinking. Concern for own ego is not helpful for scientific thinking. It was foolish to make existence all about person-in-society.
